Tunisian flag celebrates its 189th Anniversary

It was after the destruction of the Tunisian naval division at the Battle of Navarino on 20 October 1827 that the sovereign Husseinite Hussein II Bey decided to create a flag to be used by the Tunisian fleet, to distinguish it from other fleets, and adds a white circle, besides the crescent and star symbols already present in jewelry, art and Tunisian architecture. This is the occasion of the birth of the flag, created in 1831 or in 1835, according to sources, is formalized by Ahmed I Bey in 1837. Today, the Tunisian flag on all public and military buildings.

It also floats on the seats of regional and international organizations as well as the buildings housing the embassies of Tunisia.

Tunisian flag is displayed during national commemorations and honors are given following a precise ceremonial. Furthermore, since September 1989, the national flag salvation is mandatory in all public schools Tunisian private.
